Join A Class Act NY for a Concert Presentation of PSYKIDZ: A New Musical by award-winning composer/writer, Bobby Cronin!

An original musical about our hidden abilities and the fears that come with being “different”, PSYKIDZ follows three youngsters from various backgrounds who are chosen by world-renowned psychic-medium Skylar Quinn to get specialized on-site training at a newly discovered site that has sent scientists and archeologists running in fear. As the psychic kids develop their skills and subsequently heal the conflicted relationships with their families, they each become more confident and accepting of their special abilities, ultimately becoming more confident with who they are.

Focus of Class: Students will learn about and utilize techniques developed by masters of acting such as Sanford Meisner, Constantin Stanislavski, Stella Adler, Uta Hagen, Viola Spolin, Ann Bogart and more. These are some of the most influential, widely-used acting techniques that renowned stage and screen actors employ to get realistic, emotional and natural performances. Through monologue, scene work and exercises, students will work individually and in pairs. The exercises are specifically designed to teach the core principles of these distinguished instructors.

Focus of Class: Students will devise their own short comedy sketches with the help of their amazing instructor who has written original content and practices improvisation!  Moreover, we will recreate a “writer’s room” atmosphere in this program. Students will learn how to structure their stories and how to write and land jokes. The students will then perform these sketches on-camera.

Final Showcase: Actors will present their scene work to loved ones and scouting Talent Reps.

Learn about the rewards and challenges of creating a character from the ground up, and working with a developing script.

Brief Plot Summary: Loretta Vern is celebrating her 14th birthday at her favorite escape room, “Trapped” on the Mort Weber Highway. She comes with three of her closest friends. She’s been a hundred times. She’s actually a record holder for the room, her picture is on the wall. She has escaped in one minute and thirty five seconds. They greet her with a big smile. They enter the escape room, but something is off. The usual book that is removable that hides the skeleton key is gone. The usual emcee is out and someone else is hosting. Suddenly, they realize they are trapped, and they need to actually escape.

As they make their way through this actual disaster, they face a variety of issues as they are scared completely out of their wits. They realize that the escape room has been taken over by actual villains and the only way out is to outsmart and defeat the villains. The phones lines are dead, cell service is down, doors are locked. How will they get out? Will Loretta ever get her birthday cake?

Staged Performance: The week will culminate in the WORLD PREMIERE of ESCAPE! for an audience filled with family, friends, and industry guests!

Mr. Creel recently won a Tony for his portrayal of Cornelius Hackl in HELLO, DOLLY, in which he co-starred alongside Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce. Gavin was also nominated in the category of Best Actor twice before. First for his portrayal of Jimmy Smith in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE and then for his portrayal of Claude in HAIR!

Gavin will be working one-on-one with each student! Sing a 32 bar mock audition for Gavin who will offer each student individual guidance and feedback on their audition technique and song interpretation!
