Work on performance and audition skills in this class!
In our 5-Week class, we will tackle songs composed by at least 2 of the three of the most prolific Broadway composers named Stephen: Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Flaherty!
Walk away with at least 2 audition ready cuts, one 16 bar cut, and one 32 bar cut, written by a Stephen!
Stephen Sondheim (GYPSY, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, SWEENEY TODD) is considered to be the most difficult of our “three Stephen’s” to sing! His work is complex, both lyrically and rhythmically. Together, we will demystify Sondheim’s works by analyzing the text, and the music, so that we may tell a wonderfully layered, memorable and authentic performance through song.
Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, GODSPELL, PIPPIN) writes beautifully enchanting, “popular” music! His songs are also complex and can be difficult to sing. Together, let’s work on the acting beats within the text, vocal dynamics, harmonies and more!
Stephen Flaherty (RAGTIME, ANASTASIA, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND) like our other Stephens, is also a super prolific composer! His work is performed by actors of all ages, young and old! He writes beautifully haunting songs that tell a great story! Like we did with our other Stephen’s, we will work on storytelling through song, and musicality!
Focus Of Class:
• Hone two song cuts, one 16 and one 32 bar cut, written by one or more of our Stephens
• Deepen storytelling through song skills by working on song interpretation and presentation
• Work on vocal dynamics, harmonies, tone, pitch, and more with our Broadway Team
• Learn how to talk to the Music Director and learn the do’s and don’ts of auditioning
• Learn how to leave a lasting impression in the audition room and in performance, on the stage
Final Showcase for Loved Ones & Talent Reps
Concludes with a performance for loved ones and a few Scouting Talent Reps!
