Brief Synopsis:
In the land of Criterion, tradition is the standard. Crown Princess Alia’s acquisition of the throne is fast approaching, set to commence with her Coronation Ball – a sacred, time-honored ceremony during which the kingdom’s female heir must marry a prince and begin wearing her “enchanted dress” which she must wear every day for the duration of her reign to ensure nation-wide peace and prosperity (seeing as the ensorcelled garment is blessed with order-preserving powers). The plan in place for Alia to have a flawless ritual and subsequent rulership, matching her predecessors, goes awry… when a week before her ball, she discovers she cannot fit into her magic gown. The only two individuals aware of her dilemma (Charlie, her personal dresser, and Benson, a common thief discovered hiding in the changing room) join her on a discreet quest, racing the clock to find a rumored, elusive Alchemist, whom the trio believes can provide Alia with a source of magic that will transform her to be the proper size to fit into her dress in time for her Ball, allowing her to fulfill her destiny as scheduled and maintain her failure-free record for her subjects and mother.
MEASURE UP examines perfectionism, interacting with the unknown, and the relationship between responsibility and grace, as well as the veiled modern topic of restrictive eating delivered in the form of a wacky fairytale adventure interwoven with an expeditious, jazz-infused score.
