Hone your acting chops in a fun, safe and supportive environment in Character Camp, an online acting program with amazing On-Camera, Voice-Over and Broadway faculty!

Camps meet online for 3 hours and 15 minutes daily.

In our straight acting program, campers will explore four different areas of performance: stage acting, film, television and voice-over. Learn how to make bold and interesting character choices and deepen performance skills through a series of workshops and private lessons. Campers will learn to use their physicality and intellect to create compelling characters!

Add new skills to your actor’s toolbox!

Private Lessons – Monologue Study
Campers will take a free 45-minute one-on-one session with their Main Director to work on an age-appropriate monologue. Each actor will be assigned a piece to learn before their session. With the guidance of your Director, you will break down your monologue beat by beat, discover operative words within the text, and identify your objective. Lessons will take place outside of normal camp hours.

Take educational workshops led by your Main Director and Special Guest Instructors throughout the week!

Weekly Schedule of Workshops:

Monday: Voice-Over
Voice-over acting is unlike any other type of acting and requires an actor to make bold, gutsy choices that are original, specific, and outside of the box! Learn how to create living, breathing characters for cartoons and animated feature films, commercials, and radio spots!

Tuesday: Create Your Own Content
In today’s world, actors are taking power into their own hands by creating and devising their own original content. In this workshop, we will learn how to develop original content by exploring important elements of storytelling, such as plot, setting, characters, conflict, and theme. Students will be able to present their original works to the group, and some may even appear in our final performance!

Wednesday: TV/Film Acting
Utilizing scenes from Films and TV shows, actors will work together to dissect scenes beat by beat, and learn what it takes to give a compelling and authentic performance. Actors will be paired up and assigned to a Zoom Breakout Room where they will work opposite a scene partner. Our instructor will join your breakout room and provide individualized coaching.

Thursday: The Commercial Cold Read Audition
Commercial auditions are almost always cold reads, which means the casting director never sends you the copy before the audition. Learn how to quickly pick up text with no time to prepare, break down the copy and bring your best self to the audition room despite your lack of time with the material. Learn how to sell a product without being too over the top. We’ll also cover improvisation skills, as commercial auditions often require you to put the material in your own words.

Friday: Final Showcase Prep & Performance
Review what you’ve learned during the week and get ready to present it live for family and friends!

Supplemental Materials
In addition to our classes, campers will be provided with educational videos, lessons from ACANY’s archive, helpful articles, and more to explore independently after camp hours.

Final Showcase
Campers perform in an online final showcase for family and friends! (If your loved ones can’t make it live, a recorded version will be distributed via email a few weeks after camp!)

Participants will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet with a front-facing camera, and you must download the free ZOOM app to participate!
